Johnno Casson aka Snippet is a London reared, Colchester based music artist who creates lovely songs to put in your ears & hearts.
He started out writing songs at 15 in his bedroom on a Hackney council estate with a tennis racket for guitar and a soap-on-a-rope microphone (technology eh!).
He then toured extensively as the lead singer of various bands before hooking up with trip hop pioneers Deep Joy, working with the likes of Andrew Weatherall (Primal Scream), James Lavelle (Mo’ Wax/UNKLE), Adrian Sherwood (On-U-Sound) and David Harrow (James Hardway).
Johnno has been forging a wonderfully vibrant path for the past 10 years & has released five albums & six EP’s which have attracted a world wide following and picked up great radio support from the likes of Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Amazing and an array of wonderful national and international radio stations, his song ‘We Luv The Sunshine’ features on the soundtrack to ace new movie The Space Between.
Now a well-established and respected member of the DIY indie music scene in the UK Johnno continues to ride against the grain and yet somehow always comes up smelling of roses.
A prolific writer of songs, Johnno releases music under a variety of different names, including his own, Snippet & Old Tramp. He is also a well respected champion of new music artists offering advice and support to independent music makers as a long time team member of Fresh On The Net music blog and is the producer of community arts, music & history project The Warm and Toasty Club.
The new album Future Melancholy Pop Music is released on Folkwit Records on 7th April. Future Melancholy Pop Music is Johnno’s biggest, boldest and most thought provoking album to date - from the spitting social commentary of Middle Class Ways through to the knowingly dysfunctional love story bounce of first single Bad Man, from the sarcastic spin on depression and isolation of Marvellous Life to the deeply moving story of a young life wasted and lost in but a heartbeat (Some Kid) – It’s an album full of wonderfully poetic journeys and beautiful sound collages that slowly give up their gifts.
*This album is dedicated to Johnno’s producer and longtime collaborator Wim Oudijk who sadly passed away during the recordings for the album, his loss will always be felt and this album is testament to his production talents, as Johnno said “it was simply wonderful to have a last hurrah with the nicest man I never met”
